In order to welcome new students to join the family of School of Applied Economics (School of Digital Economy), help them better adapt to the life and study in the postgraduate stage, and at the same time to strengthen the communication between teachers and students, the School successfully held a meeting with teachers and students of postgraduate students of class 2023 in the afternoon of September 10th in the third conference room on the 11th floor of the South Comprehensive Building. This meeting was hosted by Vice Dean Shu Cheng, and the agenda of the meeting was divided into six items.

  


        The first item of the meeting, Prof. Xie Hualin, dean of our college, delivered a speech. Dean Xie Hualin firstly expressed his warm welcome and sincere congratulations to all the new students, and made a systematic review and comprehensive introduction to the discipline construction, development history and achievements of the School of Applied Economics, especially the development of disciplines and teaching and research in detail. Then, Dean Xie Hualin put forward his earnest hopes and requirements to all the new students from five aspects: first, to make full use of the high quality educational resources provided by the school and the college, to continuously improve their own qualities and to expand their knowledge horizons; second, to clarify their research directions and goals as early as possible, and to make reasonable plans and arrangements; third, to learn from teachers and classmates with an open mind, and to actively participate in a variety of academic activities and exchanges; fourth, to Cultivate the ability and consciousness of exploring problems and solving problems; Fifthly, strictly abide by the university rules and regulations and laws and be a moral, responsible and responsible graduate student. Finally, Dean Xie Hua-Lin wished all the new students to spend a full and happy postgraduate stage in our college.

  


        In the second item of the meeting, all the teachers introduced themselves. The postgraduate supervisors and our faculty members present introduced their names, titles, academic research directions and main achievements respectively, which provided more references and choices for the students. The teachers also expressed their willingness to maintain close communication and exchange with the students in the future research process.

  


       The third item of the meeting, teacher representatives spoke. Mr. He Xiaogang, Deputy Director of the Research Office, and Associate Professor Yao Guanrong gave valuable advice and expectations to the new students from different perspectives. Mr. He Xiaogang, with the theme of "long-termist", deeply elaborated the importance of this methodology and value. He pointed out that being a long-termist can better cope with uncertainty, keep pace with the times and realize self-growth. He analyzed how to be a long-termist from three aspects: learning mode, goal management and interpersonal relationship, and hoped that all the new students could combine long-termism and optimism to achieve the realm of "don't listen to the sound of beating leaves through the forest, there is no harm in chanting and walking slowly", and move forward to the long-term goal. Mr. Yao Guanrong, on the other hand, put forward his expectations to the new students from four aspects: firstly, to clarify the goal, to reach a consensus with the supervisors and to plan for the long term; secondly, to be a graduate student with heart and action, to accumulate and innovate continuously; thirdly, to be good to people and to manage good interpersonal relationship in the new environment; fourthly, to form a good habit of exercising, and to build up a strong physique. Finally, Mr. Yao Guanrong wished all the new students to combine ambition, courage, quietness, and harmony, and finally become a great man.

  


        The fourth item of the meeting was the speech of student representatives. Fu Shufei, a PhD student of Land Resources and Ecological Economics, and Wang Yuchen, a PhD student of Industrial Economics, shared their learning experience and insights respectively. First of all, Fu Shufei thanked Jiang Cai for its cultivation and said she was honored to continue her study in Jiang Cai. She believed that as a graduate student, it is crucial to form dialectical thinking. She also said that she will continue to explore and set sail again in her professional field in her doctoral stage, and wished everyone a new starting point, working together and harvesting a better tomorrow. Wang Yuchen expressed her happiness to spend two years of her master's degree career in the School of Applied Economics, which is rich in academic heritage and has a strong academic atmosphere. She shared her learning insights from four aspects: firstly, clear goals and good planning; secondly, good communication and active learning; thirdly, improving professionalism and cultivating scientific research ability; and fourthly, not being humble, not being arrogant and not being impatient. He emphasized that it is very important to keep a good mindset in the postgraduate stage, because everyone has his or her own flowering period! Finally, Wang Yuchen expressed his expectations to the new master's students: "I sincerely hope that you will have a full and wonderful postgraduate life. You may go through the curious and excited graduate school, confused and entangled graduate school, panic and search for graduate school, in any case, please cherish the time, study hard, solid learning, learning to adults!"

  


        In the fifth item of the meeting, Prof. Lu Fucai, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University and head of the doctoral supervisory group of Industrial Economics, delivered a wonderful speech. First of all, Prof. Lu Fucai expressed his warm congratulations to all the new students for their successful enrollment and sent his greetings to all the teachers on Teachers' Day! Then, Mr. Lu made a profound explanation in three aspects: firstly, he introduced the historical origin and development trend of industrial economics; secondly, he analyzed the differences and connections between academic master's degree and professional master's degree from different perspectives, such as learning objectives, curriculum, graduation requirements, etc.; and thirdly, he put forward a detailed six-point plan on how to have a good postgraduates' life for the reference of the new students. These six points of planning are: firstly, and most importantly, to strengthen the cultivation of ideology and morality, to match their own ideals with the needs of the country, and to do valuable topics; secondly, all postgraduates should strengthen the study of the theoretical basis of economics, in particular, they should be proficient in western economics and political economy, and have a clear understanding of economic history; thirdly, in the basic study, to strengthen the professional knowledge, to master the core theories in the field, and to learn the basic principles of the field, and to have the best knowledge in the field. learning, and master the core theories and methods in this field; fourth, focus on the improvement of scientific research ability, including writing ability and quantitative analysis ability. At the same time, it is necessary to understand the real economic life and cultivate the ability to transform academic problems and real problems into each other; Fifth, it is also essential to participate in social practice. Through practicing activities, we can increase our knowledge, exercise our ability and serve the society.

  


The sixth item of the meeting, Wei Qinghua, secretary of Party Committee of our college, made the first lesson of freshmen's entrance education. Wei Qinghua secretary said, as a graduate student, it is more important to be a person who knows honor and shame, and reason, which is not only the ardent expectation of the society, but also an important condition for graduate students to develop themselves comprehensively and grow up healthily. Secretary Wei Qinghua emphasized that we should inherit and carry forward the fine traditions of the Chinese nation, consciously abide by the basic norms of civic morality, and strive to develop good moral character and cultivate noble moral sentiments. Secretary Wei Qinghua cited the "Graduate Student Management Regulations" and explained in detail how we should strengthen our moral cultivation and improve our personal character. Finally, Mr. Wei put forward his earnest hope to the new students, hoping that on the basis of strengthening their own moral cultivation, the new students will take scientific research as their first task, achieve "true level, true professionalism, and great aspirations", and become higher-level, specialized talents who can make contributions to the country.

  This new student meeting ended successfully, through this new student meeting, the new students have a better understanding of the college's history, faculty, disciplines, scientific research, teaching and so on, and also have a clearer understanding of their own research direction and tutors, to be able to meet the brand-new postgraduate life with a more full attitude. Postgraduate career is a new stage, but also new challenges, looking forward to the research journey, I believe that we will be under the leadership of teachers to study hard, positive innovation, the courage to explore, to contribute to the development of the College, to continue to write the College of Applied Economics of a new glory.
