On the morning of November 3, 2024, Professor He Canfei of Peking University delivered an academic report entitled "The Correlation Law of China's Industrial Development and Layout" to the teachers and students of Peking University in the lecture Hall No. 2 of the Graphic Information Building in the North District of Jiaoqiao Yuan Campus. The lecture was hosted by Vice President Xie Hualin, and the teachers and students of our school were present for learning and exchange.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor He Canfei took geographical proximity and cognitive proximity as the starting point, started from the theoretical basis of Neoclassical economics and urban economics, combined with a comprehensive perspective, and made a rational and logical explanation of geographical proximity. Then, through empirical analysis, he demonstrated the knowledge spillover effect caused by geographic agglomeration in the same industry and between different industries. Professor He further pointed out that technological relevance, namely cognitive proximity, is also a key factor affecting knowledge spillover efficiency, and expanded the connotation of cognitive proximity from a multi-dimensional perspective, emphasizing the active and passive mechanism of relevance law. To this end, he introduced three correlation measurement methods, system classification, input-output relationship and co-occurrence probability, which provided tools for quantitative research. Then, Professor He combined the association law with enterprises, industries, products, regional resilience and import and export markets, and thoroughly studied its wide application in different fields and the factors that strengthen and weaken it. Finally, he summarized the theoretical value of the association rule, and proposed forward-looking policy implications from the perspective of geographical proximity and cognitive proximity, which provided the audience with the thinking direction to understand the industry correlation, and also provided theoretical support for future policy formulation and practical operation.

Vice President Xie Hualin made a concise summary of the lecture and spoke highly of Professor He Canfei's wonderful sharing. He pointed out that with his profound knowledge and unique academic insights, Professor He cleverly cut in from the two unique perspectives of geographical proximity and cognitive proximity, and analyzed the correlation law of China's industrial development and layout in a multi-dimensional, deep and broad vision. This simple explanation not only greatly enriched the theoretical cognitive framework of our teachers and students, but also provided valuable guidance and inspiration for our future exploration and practice in the field of regional economic development.

In this lecture, the teachers and students of our school and Professor He Canfei launched a warm and fruitful discussion. The teachers and students actively asked questions, and Professor He gave profound and detailed answers one by one with his profound knowledge and rigorous academic attitude. Our young teachers pay special attention to how to broaden their knowledge horizons, enrich their topics and enhance their academic contributions in the process of research. Professor He gave suggestions based on his own experience, from the initial study of geographical concentration of manufacturing industry, he gradually expanded to environmental economic geography, industrial development and evolutionary economic geography, and stressed the need to incorporate new factors around the industry itself, focusing on the pattern, process, mechanism and effect. At the same time, he also mentioned the importance of keeping up to date with the latest literature, and recommended that you dig deeper into a certain field according to your own reality.

This lecture is not only a feast of knowledge, but also an exchange and collision of ideas. We eagerly look forward to more such high-quality academic exchange activities in the future, so as to promote the deepening of academic research and the wide dissemination of knowledge, and contribute to the construction of disciplines and academic progress.
